Create An Eat-In Kitchen And Bring Your Family Together

Blog

While the American family used to gather around the kitchen table for many years, the eat-in kitchen fell out of favor after time. But many families are rediscovering the value of an eat-in kitchen as they lead busy lives and entertain in less traditional ways. Do you want to join this reemerging trend? Here are a few ways to add an eat-in element to any remodeling project.

1. Leave Room for a Table

The simplest way to create an eat-in kitchen is to add a small kitchen table. Kitchen tables differ from dining room tables, though. A kitchen table is usually smaller (seating up to four people), round or oval, and more casual. If you want to add a table, make sure there's plenty of space. You don't want to add a table while sacrificing overall comfort and navigation.

2. Use the Island

Kitchen islands are one of the most popular modern elements, so they're a great way to add an eat-in element. The island can perform double duty by just tucking a few stools under the side facing the kitchen work area. As with a table, though, make sure you don't make things look and feel cramped by installing an island where there simply isn't space to support it.

3. Add a Second Island

Do you have an open floor plan or a large kitchen? Rather than install one large island, consider installing two or more. The second island layout opens up possibilities that a single one can't. You might turn the second island entirely into a dedicated eating area, for instance. Want something truly unique? Replace a traditional island with an actual dining table.

4. Create a Nook

The breakfast nook is one of the more complex ways to make an eat-in kitchen, but it can be the most beautiful and fun. The breakfast nook becomes a decorative element rather than simply adding a table. It can be as large and ambitious as you want — or as small and modest as you need.

5. Take Down the Wall

Finally, don't overlook the space already in your attached dining room. With fewer people fully utilizing their dining rooms, this may be an excellent way to add space in the kitchen for the eat-in feature. Regardless of what else you remodel in the kitchen, this one move creates an eat-in environment.

Interior Designs: Reviving Wallpaper, Vinyl Stickers and Printed Patterns

Hi, my name is Carole, and I am still in love with a lot of the decorative ideas that surrounded me in my childhood during the late 1970s and early 1980s. I love shag carpeting, patterned wallpaper and wild couch prints that look like they match your bell bottoms. However, I am not stuck in the past. Instead, I have learned to integrate these passions into my overall sense of style. If you want to learn how to integrate the best design ideas from previous decades into your home decor without making your home seem old or dated, please explore. This blog is going to cover all of the tips you need.
